Hey Rockers,

I proposed that the 2nd Monday of every month is Cover Tune Day. There is tons of great songs covered by all of our favorite bands, so let's get them heard. Plus you might learn a thing or two (I know I have), like "Oh, I didn't realize that song was a cover" and/or who did the original version. Finally, it makes the day go by quicker.

The Mondays coming up are:

Aug. 13th
Sept. 10th
Oct. 8th
Nov. 12th
Dec. 10th

I will tell you the track I recently discovered was a cover was Strength off the new Skid Row - RPM disc. I even have "The Alarm's" Greatest Hits disc and would have eventually caught on (if I ever sat down to listen to that disc again). Just thought the skidsters finally did a song without Baz that rocked. Oh well the Skid Row version is better!

Cool..lots of stuff to spin for covers...thst Skid Row tune, 1st time I heard it I was like holy crap I know that tune! Honestly the 1st non-Baz SR tune I have liked ...and it ends up being a cover!

Great idea. Often cover tunes are better than the originals. I have to chime in on the Skid Row song as well. The first time I played it, it sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it. I chalked it up to similarity. Like Da314man, I too have the Alarm's version, but didn't connect the two. Probably because I haven't listened to the Alarm since - forever.

Here's a thought. If a band redoes one of their own songs, is it a cover? Not live versions, but actually re-doing a song with changes. UFO and Megadeth both have.

I would have to say NO. Same band, same tune - not a cover in my mind.

BTW, I HATE the re-done Megadeth albums; why mess with perfection, but MegaDave's ego was swelling and his feud with Dave, Jr. didn't help matters at all. I should upload the ORIGINAL versions of some of the albums so everyone can see the difference (and it's a BIG one).

Also BTW, Twisted Sister re-did "Stay Hungry" with "Still Hungry", which I kind of like better since it's heavier and more rough & raw than the original.

I thought it was great too, and heard a lot of songs I didn't even know were covers ("Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" was Joan Baez? No way!)

I just uploaded a bunch of albums with covers songs so hopefully there will be even more to choose from next month.

No Godsmack, but Nuclear Assault's cover of that song is on here. BTW, you know you can request any song on the station from the Request and Dedicate Songs page, right?
