All,

We received this sad news from Hairball John today...We send our prayers to The Acid Chimp's family and friends. He will be missed....

-----------------------------------------------

Alan Thomas Schafer, better known as The Acid Chimp, co-host of The Hairball John Radio Show, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center-Harrison in Saginaw, Michigan. The following is a personal letter from show host Hairball John.

Dear Hairball Nation,

It deeply saddens me to announce the passing of The Acid Chimp. He passed quickly in his home of a heart attack at the young age of 37 on June 22nd. Given the birth name of Alan Schaffer, he was known by most of his friends as “Big Al”, but in the world of music that he loved so much he was adored as “The Acid Chimp”. In the coming weeks I will decide about the future of The Hairball John Radio Show but at this time I morn the loss of a very close friend and genuinely good man.

Comments and memories are encouraged at http://hairballjohn.blogspot.com/ and they will be passed on to family and friends.

Please note that the official site of www.hairballjohnradioshowcom is currently NOT functioning and all news will be posted at http://hairballjohn.blogspot.com/

Thank you for your support.

Song Ratings!
  Posted: Tue Jun 2, 2009 9:47:30 CDT  .:.   Replies:4 .:. Author: Chris
Recently, we've rolled out the ability to rate songs to anyone registered on the site (not just paid subscribers). We encourage you to vote as we're planning to do the second annual Labor day countdown show completely based on listener ratings. We may set the bar pretty high for number of minimum votes for a song to make it into the countdown so get your votes in on your favorite songs.

HR80s to Offer free CD Quality Streams!

All,

We're in the process of changing things over to offer [b:4883165016][i:4883165016]FREE cd quality 128k streams[/b:4883165016][/i:4883165016]. We've been given a 500 listener 128k windows media stream for free. We'll be phasing out the 56k streams and moving towards a broadband stream and dial up streams. We will be changing the tune in links on the site. Expect a formal announcement on when the change is complete. We anticipate completion tomorrow morning.

I've already contacted existing 128k subscribers about the change. Existing 128k subscribers can either downgrade their subscription or keep it at previous pricing (to help fund the station). No worries either way. In essence, the more expensive 128k package is now obsolete and no longer available.

[b:4883165016]New Subscribers will just see the $5 backstage pass option. This will entitle you to all premium features (more requests, ringtones, videos, etc) and premium quality radio for one low monthly price. [/b:4883165016]

Making this change will truly allow us to do a win-win: We win as we lower costs and improve overall station quality, and listeners win as now everyone has access to 128k streams.

Please email or pm me regarding any questions or concerns you have.

Enjoy!
Chris
